Not that I would ever kill anyone in cold blood, but let's say:
I murdered someone with my 1911 .45 ACP pistol by several shots to the torso and head with jacketed hollow-point rounds. I tried to pick up all my spent brass, but it's possible I missed one or two casings. Let's ingore motive, witnesses, and other shit ans focus soley on the ballistics.
I safely make it to my residence/safehouse, and detail strip my weapon. I run a sharp file through the lands and groves of the barrel, remove and file/mar the bushing, extractor, ejector, slide stop, recoil spring, hammer, spring guide, and firing pin. I set those parts in a pot of warm salt water while I remove the magazine floorplate and mar it, cut up the mag spring, mar the feed lips and dent the magazine tube. After I set those parts in the warm salt water, I clean the frame and slide, and rebuild the pistol using replacement parts I bought at a local gun show for cash (new barrel, extractor, bushing, ejector, slide stop, firing pin, hammer, and a virgin magazine). I later safeky drop the marred/rusted parts into a local body of water.
If the cops confiscate my .45, will they be able to link my weapon to the slugs/casings found at the crime scene? Obviously, I never reported the weapon stolen or lost.
I doubt anyone will answer, but just curious if anyone can answer.
